Safe, Strong, Dynamic Community

We live in a growing and changing neighborhood that is rooted in strong community. I believe that the key to a safe, strong and dynamic community is dialogue.

Even as I’ve moved on from my role as ANC, I am working to lead conversations that improve the quality of life of the residents of Ward One.

Development

We must work to find a balance between growth in our neighborhood and improving quality of life for current residents.

New development increases the density of our neighborhood and creates a demand for more resources.

As a Commissioner I worked with the developers in our area to stay focused on safety and the quality of life issues that affect neighbors near each construction site.

As I continue to serve our community I will work with developers to improve their plans by increasing services to meet the needs of the new residents, as well as the needs of those who already live here.

I will continue to encourage developers to create retail and community space to increase the interaction between new residents and current residents.

Community Building

Knowing your neighbors and interacting with them in a positive way builds a safe community.

My involvement with the Orange Hat Patrol has given me the opportunity to work with our local police, neighborhood association, and neighbors to make our neighborhood safer and cleaner.

I have seen the way vacant buildings become sites for loitering and drug abuse, and believe delinquent landlords need to be held accountable. As ANC Commissioner I worked with DCRA to penalize owners of vacant properties and will continue to do so until we have alleviated all the nuisances in our neighborhood.

Everyone needs to be part of the conversation to make our community safe, strong and dynamic.

Meridian Hill Park

Our neighborhood is fortunate to have such an accessible, beautiful park. As Commissioner, I worked with the National Park Service and Washington Parks and People to bring life back to the park through clean up days and weekend celebrations. As the renovations in the park conclude there will be more opportunities for all of us to enjoy the privilege of having such a treasure so close to our homes.
